What a docket is

How dockets are created, what they hold and the two workflow tracks.

A docket is the field record of work done. It is the single most important operational record in GeoCRM, because it is what gets signed on site, what reporting is built from, and what you invoice against.

Dockets are created for you

Every job creates its docket automatically. You never create one manually. If a job exists, its docket exists.

This is why the Create Job wizard notes a docket is created automatically with every new job, and why the Billable job option on that wizard matters — it sets whether the resulting docket is billable.

What a docket holds

  • Work entries — the services and quantities performed
  • Photos — site photography from the field
  • Inspection and field time — what was done and how long it took
  • Signatures — from your field representative and the client's representative
  • Links back to its job, project and client

The two workflows

A docket moves along two independent tracks, which is why the docket register has two filters:

Workflow state — the field and commercial progress: open → signed → awaiting invoice → invoiced.

Reporting state — whether the docket's data has been pulled into a report yet.

A docket can be signed but not yet reported, or reported but not yet invoiced. Tracking them separately is what stops work falling through the cracks.
