The Section designer
Building cross-sections, alignment order, exaggeration and draft correlations.
The Section designer builds cross-sections between investigation locations.
Creating a section
Click New section. Each section is saved with a name, an engineering state and a revision number, and is listed in the panel on the left.
The three views
- Plan — the section alignment seen from above
- Profile — the cross-section itself, holes drawn at their true reduced levels with lithology between them
- 3D — the section in three dimensions
Choosing and ordering locations
Alignment order at the bottom of the right panel lists every location with a checkbox. Tick the ones to include, then use the up and down arrows to set the order along the section line. The numbers beside each show their position in the alignment. Use all includes everything.
Order matters — it defines the path the section follows across the site.
Display controls
Vertical exaggeration stretches the vertical scale. Sections across a wide site with modest level change are unreadable at true scale; exaggeration makes the stratigraphy visible. The current factor is shown beside the slider, for example ×4.0.
Show location labels turns the hole labels on and off.
Colour soil layers applies a material palette to the profile and 3D views. The Studio notes that classification symbols remain the engineering reference — the colour is a visual aid, not the authority.
Draft correlations
Draft correlations connects matching interval sequences between adjacent holes, drawing continuous layers across the section.
Read the warning carefully: this is an interpretation aid and requires engineering review. GeoCRM is joining intervals that look alike. Whether those layers actually correlate is a geological judgement that only a competent person can make. Never issue a correlated section that an engineer has not reviewed.
Saving
Save commits the section and increments its revision. The Engineering state dropdown moves it from draft toward final, matching the workflow on the investigation itself.
Where sections appear
Saved sections show as a layer on the workspace GIS Map.
