How lab work flows through GeoCRM
The request chain, request states, test statuses and the three module views.
Laboratory work in GeoCRM runs through one chain:
Work Request → Samples → Worksheets → Results → Review → Approval → Lab Report
The pieces
- A Work Request (
WR-4001) is a laboratory job. It is raised against a project and job, and carries a due date. - A Sample (
S-4001A) is material received for testing. One request holds many samples. - A Worksheet is one test on one sample — a Compaction Control Test on sample A, for example. One sample can carry several worksheets.
- A Lab Report is the issued document, which stays connected to its work request and project.
Request states
A work request moves through four states:

Test statuses
Each individual test moves through its own four-stage progression:

| approved | Approved for issue |
These two vocabularies are independent. A request sits in Ready for Lab while its individual tests move from pending through to approved, and only becomes Complete when they are all done.
Three views of the same module
Work Requests, Status Board and Lab Reports share the same header metrics and the same New Work Request button. They are three views of one module, not three separate modules:
- Work Requests — the list of jobs
- Status Board — outstanding work by test stream
- Lab Reports — what has been issued
