Raising a work request
Linking to a project and job, workflow details and sample information.
Raise a request with New Work Request, available from the Work Requests register, the Status Board or Lab Reports.
Linking the request
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Project | Choose first — the job list depends on it |
| Job | Filtered to the selected project |
| Client | Inherited from the project |
| Assigned to | The laboratory technician responsible |
Workflow details
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| State | Starting state, normally New |
| Request type | The kind of request, for example General |
| Report type | For example Endorsed — determines the reporting standard applied |
| Specification | The specification being tested against, if any |
Report type and Specification matter downstream. An endorsed report carries different requirements from an unendorsed one, and the specification determines the acceptance criteria results are judged against.
Sample and site details
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Client reference | The client's own job number |
| Contact | Who to contact about this request |
| Location | Where the material came from |
| Lot number | The lot under test |
| Summary | Short description of the request |
| Material description | What the material is |
| Sampled date | When the material was sampled |
| Date lodged | When it arrived at the laboratory |
Recording Client reference is worth the few seconds — it is what the client will quote when they call to chase a result.
