Recording samples

Adding samples, SPT blow counts, sample types and import.

The Samples tab records what was recovered and how it connects to laboratory testing.

Adding a sample

Click Add Sample and record the sample reference, its type and its depth — either a single depth or a range.

How samples display

Samples show as cards with their reference, type and depth:

  • E1 · Environmental at 0.10 m
  • S1 · Spt at 2.25 m–2.45 m, with blow counts shown underneath as 4,7,4; N=11

For SPT samples the individual blow counts and the resulting N value are recorded together, and both appear on the engineering log.

Sample types

The type you choose controls how the sample is drawn in the samples column of the log — environmental samples, SPT samples and disturbed or undisturbed samples each have their own convention.

Bulk entry

Import brings samples in from a file; CSV exports them.

Connecting to the laboratory

Samples recorded here are the field record. Laboratory testing is tracked separately as a Work Request, where each sample gets its own worksheets. See Laboratory for that workflow.
