Adding samples and worksheets

Booking samples and tests, worksheet type versus method, billing and QA flags.

Adding a sample

Click Add Samples on the work request panel. Samples are given a reference derived from the request — S-4001A, S-4001B and so on — along with a material type such as Soil.

Adding a worksheet

Each sample has a Worksheet button. It opens a short dialog:

Worksheet type	The test to perform
Test method	The standard to test against, or Default method
Due date	When this test is needed
Do not bill	Exclude this test from billing
QA activity	Mark as quality assurance rather than client work

Click Add Worksheet.

Worksheet type and test method

These two are distinct and it is worth understanding why.

Worksheet type is the data-entry form — the set of fields and calculations you will fill in, for example Compaction Control Test or Field Density Nuclear.

Test method is the standard that governs the test, for example AS 1289 5.8.1 · Field Density – Nuclear Gauge. Leaving it as Default method uses the worksheet's standard method.

Assign the method explicitly whenever the specification names one. It is recorded against the result and appears on the report.

Do not bill and QA activity

Do not bill covers retests and work absorbed by the laboratory. QA activity marks internal quality assurance — duplicate testing, equipment checks — so it can be reported on separately from client work. Both keep your billing and QA records honest without needing a parallel spreadsheet.
