Location and drilling details
Identity, depth, reduced level, coordinates and drilling details.
The Location tab holds everything that identifies and positions an investigation location.
Identity
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Location ID | The hole name, for example BH11 or TP01 |
| Type | Borehole, Trial pit, CPT or Monitoring well |
| Field status | Planned, In progress or Complete |
Type changes how the location is drawn on the log, the site plan and the 3D model, and which layer it falls under on the GIS Map.
Depth and level
- Final depth (m) — total depth drilled
- Ground level / RL (m) — reduced level at the surface, to AHD
- Logged by — initials of the person who logged it
Ground level matters more than it looks: cross-sections and the 3D model position each hole vertically from this value. A missing or wrong RL puts the hole at the wrong elevation in every derived view.
Coordinates
Two coordinate systems are recorded side by side:
- Easting and Northing — projected grid coordinates (GDA2020 / MGA)
- Latitude and Longitude — decimal degrees, WGS 84, between −90 and 90 and −180 and 180
Two helpers sit under Geographic position:
- Use current location — takes the position from the device you're on, for logging in the field
- Pick on map — place the point precisely on satellite imagery, for logging back at the office
Drilling details
- Drilling method — for example Auger, washbore and NMLC coring
- Contractor — the drilling contractor
- Date started and Date completed
