Completing a test worksheet
A worked example: calculated fields, gauge readings, curing, moisture and density ratio.
Worksheets are structured data-entry forms. Each has the fields and calculations its method requires. This page walks through the Compaction Control Test, which combines four standards and shows every feature you will meet elsewhere.

Reading the form
Shaded fields are calculated. You do not type into them — they populate from the values you enter. Save & Recalculate at the bottom recomputes everything.
If a calculated field stays blank, an input it depends on is missing.
Who and when
At the top: Tester, Supervisor, Date tested and Time tested. Both people are recorded because checking is a separate step from testing.
Sample and location information
Test request and location reference, latitude and longitude, layer, depth of layer, material description and binding time. Much of this is inherited from the work request.
Nuclear field gauge readings (AS 1289.5.8.1)
Test depths and wet densities for the full, top and bottom layers. Reported densities are calculated from the readings.
Oversize correction
Mass of dry oversize and the resulting percentage. Where material contains significant oversize, the density result must be corrected for it — this block does that.
Curing
Start and finish curing date and time, curing hours, plasticity (LL), condition of the prepared sample, minimum curing hours and how that minimum was determined. Is sample within 4% of OMC records whether the moisture condition met the requirement.
Moisture content (AS 1289 2.1.1)
Container number and masses — container, wet soil and container, dry soil and container. Mass of water, mass of dry soil and moisture content are calculated. Exclude drops a determination from the average where it is unreliable.
Density ratio calculations (AS 1289 5.4.1)
The result. Total dry mass, maximum dry density, optimum moisture content, then density ratio, moisture ratio and moisture variation. Adjusted MDD, adjusted OMC and adjusted density ratio account for the oversize correction.
Density ratio is the number the specification is judged against.
Finishing
Click Save & Recalculate. Check the calculated fields have populated and the density ratio is sensible before setting the test to tested.
