Searching for anything

The global search, what it covers, filtering by record type and keyboard shortcuts.

GeoCRM has a single search that covers every record type at once. It is the fastest way to get anywhere.

Press ⌘K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) from anywhere in the application. You can also click the Search anything... box at the top of the sidebar.

What it searches

One query searches across all of these at the same time:

  • Projects
  • Jobs
  • Dockets
  • Contacts
  • Companies
  • Reports
  • Equipment
  • Team members

Results are ordered with the best matches first, and each result is labelled with its record type so you can tell a project from a job at a glance.

Narrowing results

The left column lists each record type with a count of how many matches it found. Click a type to show only those results. Types with no matches are greyed out.

Keyboard navigation

Search is built to be used without the mouse:

Key Action
↑ / ↓ Move between results
Enter Open the selected result
Esc Close search

What to search for

Search matches on names, titles and addresses, and also on record numbers. Useful things to paste in:

  • A project number — 12274
  • A job number — 13167
  • A docket number — 12275-3829
  • A site address — 1 Bartley Street
  • A client name — MCV Holding

If you only remember part of a street name or client name, type that — partial matches work.
