The calculation library

The four calculators, their methods and assumptions.

New Calculation opens the calculator library, grouped by purpose.

Field interpretation

DCP to CBR — converts DCP penetration readings into an interpreted CBR profile and design value.

Normally created from a DCP test via Create DCP-to-CBR, which carries the field readings across as a snapshot. See Exporting and reusing a DCP test.

Foundations and settlement

Bearing Capacity — assesses ultimate and allowable bearing pressure for shallow strip, pad and circular footings, with layered ground screening.

Elastic Settlement — estimates immediate elastic settlement of a rectangular footing over a homogeneous compressible layer.

Note the assumptions in those descriptions. Elastic settlement here covers immediate settlement over a homogeneous layer — it is not a consolidation settlement analysis, and layered or compressible soils need judgement about whether the model applies.

Stress distribution

Vertical Stress Increase — calculates Boussinesq vertical stress increase beneath rectangular and strip surface loads.

Choosing

The library has a search box. Each calculator shows its description, so you can confirm the method matches the problem before starting.

Every calculator states the method it implements. Check it suits your ground conditions and design standard — the calculator applies the method correctly, but it cannot tell you whether the method is the right one.
