Lab Reports
Generating reports, traceability and how they differ from built reports.
Lab Reports holds the laboratory reports you have issued.
Generating a report
Open a work request and click Generate Report. The report is produced from the approved results on that request.
Tests that are not yet approved should not be issued — see Moving tests through review.
The register
| Column | Shows |
|---|---|
| Report | The report reference |
| Work request | The request it came from |
| Project | The project |
| Approved | Approval status |
| File | The generated document |
An empty register reads No laboratory reports yet — generated reports will appear here.
Reports stay connected
Issued reports remain linked to their work request and project. From a report you can trace back to the request, its samples, the individual worksheets and the raw values recorded on them.
That traceability is the point. If a result is queried a year later, the chain from issued report back to the tester, the supervisor, the method and the numbers is intact.
Laboratory reports and the Report Builder
These are different things:
- Lab Reports are generated from a work request — structured test results in a standard format
- Reports in the Reporting module are built by hand in the Report Builder — narrative engineering documents that may include laboratory results
A geotechnical investigation report is built in the Report Builder; a set of compaction results is a lab report. See Reporting & Calculations.
