Logging lithology

Recording material intervals, editing them and bulk import.

The Lithology tab is where you describe the ground.

The rule

Intervals must be non-overlapping, and run from ground surface down to termination depth. The Studio expects a continuous sequence — a gap or an overlap will show up in the graphical log.

Adding a layer

Click Add Layer and record:

Depth from and depth to
Material type — for example Topsoil, Filling, Clay
Colour, moisture condition and consistency or density
A full material description

How intervals display

Each logged interval shows as a card with a summary line and the full description underneath. For example:

CLAY · 3.00 m–5.00 m
Clay · grey with light orange/red mottling · moist · very stiff
CLAY - very stiff, moist, grey with light orange/red mottling, medium to high plasticity clay, trace ironstone gravel

The short attributes drive the graphic log and the classification symbol; the long description is what prints in the material description column.

Editing and deleting

Each interval card has a pencil icon to edit and a bin icon to delete.

Bulk entry

Import — bring in intervals from a file, useful when the driller supplies a log
CSV — export the intervals

Watch the preview

The live graphical log on the right redraws as you add intervals. It is the fastest way to check your sequence is continuous and the hatching looks right.

# Logging lithology

The **Lithology** tab is where you describe the ground.
